Pallanza

A very romantic small town with a beautiful lakefront, overlooking the mother island, and only a few steps from the little picturesque San Giovanni island; Property first of the feudal lords Da Castello, the little island, which can not be visited, has belonged  to the Borromeo family since 1600. Its palace was the summer residence, for over 30 years, of the conductor Arturo Toscanini.

With the guide you will discover the City Palace, a nineteenth-century building, now home to the town hall; the church of San Leonardo, the picturesque pedestrian street with its shops, the birthplace and the mausoleum of Luigi Cadorna, Casa Moriggia, the old Porto, the monument of the Bella Pallanza, the memorial of the fallen of the great wars and finally Villa Giulia, which was built in 1847 by Bernardino Branca, the inventor of Fernet Branca(Italian liquer). In 1932 the villa became the Casino of Verbania and today belongs to the municipality; periodically the villa houses exhibitions, events, conferences or concerts. Ancient plants are visible In its public park : a Lebanon cedar, a secular laurus, banana trees, magnolias, azaleas, camellias and a very old Quercus cork-tree.

For art lovers,  the Museum of the landscape, with works of Daniele Ranzoni, the landscape painter Luigi Litta, Achille Tominetti, Gignous, Mario Tozzi and many other painters, landscape artists, avant-garde and not, of nineteenth and twentieth century  can also be visited with the guide,. Very beautiful also the gallery of plaster casts with models in plaster, bronzes and marbles of the great sculptor Paul Troubetzkoy, a sort of  atelier artist.

Of great interest, about 1 km from the centre, a national monument, an example of Renaissance art: the Madonna di Campagna church.
