From 1911 to 1964, from Stresa centre, people could travel by funicular (railway) which, in just over an hour, took the passengers to the top of Mottarone mountain; from the top people could enjoy a marvelous view of the subalpine lakes and the always snow covered Alps.
The breathtaking view has not changed, but in 1970 the cableway replaced the old funicular. The Mottarone mountain becomes a ski resort in winter , with about 20 km of ski runs. In summer, a place where tourists can walk keeping in contact with alpine nature.
With the tourist guide the trip will start from Carciano-Stresa, where every 20 minutes the cableway, , takes you to an altitude of about 700m. Here it’s possible to reach the Alpinia Garden on foot. The garden counts more than 200 alpine botanical species, set in a panorama of striking beauty over the charming Borromeo Gulf with its islands.
The second cable reaches the 1.491m. A last chairlift system arrives to the summit of Mottarone, where, on a clear day, you can see 7 lakes!
For the most adventurous, there is the possibility to get on Alpyland: a breathtaking descent on the extraordinary bobsled track, overlooking Lake Maggiore.
