"Winner of the blue flag" ..
There is a small nice village, located between mountains and lake, built on the debris carried by a small river that crosses the village. This is Cannero.
In front of it, very close to the shore, there are three sweet islands with ruins of an old medieval castle, house-fortress of the Borromeo family.
Thanks to its special microclimate, for 500 years, Cannero is also popular for the citrus fruits cultivation, in particular the autochthonous hybrid of citron called "il Canarone", a real elite product, the only one in the world.
Today in the public and private gardens, there are about 300 citrus plants located throughout the village and this is why, it is nicknamed «Mediterranean Corner in Piedmont region».
The guided tour starts from the lake, to admire the medieval Castles, continues among the villas, with lush Mediterranean vegetation, the old manor houses, the lakefront with its old port, the ancient brush factory today, Hapimag Residence, villa Laura, the old wash house, the grotto of Lourdes, the church of St. George.
You will end the visit enjoying the aromas of Cannero, visiting the citrus park and, if possible, even a private garden, “rich of citrus trees, so dear to its inhabitants".
